You will visit the Mansion, several original outbuidlings, Washington's Tomb, and a new and interactive museum.  There is also a working blacksmith shop and the Pioneer Farm, a 4-acre demonstration farm with a reconstructed slave cabin, and a 16-sided treading farm.  The Estate has several options for lunch (on your own) at the Food Court or the Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant.

Visit the Holocaust Museum

A living memorial to the Holocaust, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum inspires citizens and leaders worldwide to confront hatred, prevent genocide, and promote human dignity.  Located among our national monuments to freedom by the National Mall, the Museum provides a powerful lesson in the fragility of freedom the myth of progress, and the need for vigilance in preserving democratic values.  With unique power and authenticity, the Museum teaches millions of people each year about the dangers of unchecked hatred and the need to prevent genocide.

Enjoy a family-style dinner at Carmine's.  Voted "Best of D.C. for Best Italian Restaurant", Carmine's Restaurant offers exceptional Southern Italian cuisine.  Platters of home style antipasto, pasta, decadent seafood or meat entrees and of course homemade desserts are all staples of Carmine's, all meant for sharing!  The results are magic-Carmine's wants every day to feel like a Sunday afternoon at Grandma's!

It is America's shrine to valor and sacrifice.  This is the final resting place for President John F. Kennedy, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Audie Murphy, prizefighter Joe Louis, and thousands of soldiers from every major U.S. war.  The Cemetery is the former plantation and home of Civil War General Robert E. Lee.  Arlington House, Space Shuttle Challenger Astronaut's Memorial, and monuments to nearly every major sacrefice that affected out country are located within these 624 acres.  The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier speaks of a nation's debt to the many whose ultimate sacrifice helped make a nation free.  Arlington averages 27 funeral a day.

The rest of the day is your time for the Smithsonian Museum.  You may choose to explore American History, Natural History, Air and Space or other Smithsonian Museums of interest.  The Smithsonian Institution, established in 1846 "for the increase and diffusion of knowledge," is a group of museums and research centers administered by the United States government.  It's termed "the nation's attic" for its eclectic holdings of 137 million items.  Other suggestions would be the Liberty of Congress, Supreme Court, Spy Museum, Newseum, the Botanic Gardens, or the National Gallery of Art.
